"no warning"… how about 1) earthquake when you're on a coast 2) honking 3) receding tide 4) animals flying/running… You had plenty of warning, but you vacation was too important to be impacted by reality.

I saw someone say the first wave of the tsunami is the warning. Minutes only to spare after that and the waves will continue to get bigger and more violent.
The hotel was damaged by the tsunami. They had to rebuild it.
